What Ceramide NP is

Ceramide NP, formerly often called Ceramide 3, is made from a fatty-acid portion linked to a phytosphingosine-type base. Start with a pea-sized amount for the face and add a thin second layer only to areas that remain tight, such as the cheeks or around the mouth.

At night, a ceramide cream usually goes after treatment serums. If retinol is irritating, applying moisturizer before and after the retinol can buffer the experience. In the morning, follow the moisturizer with broad-spectrum sunscreen. If the layers pill, use less product or switch to a lighter lotion rather than assuming the ceramide is incompatible with sunscreen.

When to expect results

The emollient part of a cream can make skin feel smoother immediately, but changes in recurring dryness and barrier performance are better judged over several days or weeks. The clearest signs are practical: less stinging from ordinary products, fewer rough patches, and skin that stays comfortable for longer between applications.

For ordinary dry, tight, overworked skin, Ceramide NP is a sensible ingredient to build a moisturizer around.
